MARGATE MEMBERS HOLD FIRST HEALTH FAIR
by Julia Tedim
Even though Margate Church has no permanent facility, members decided to organize a health fair. Held at the Margate Community Center, the goal of the fair was to educate and inform the general public of health issues and to have a presence in the community.
Several local health professionals and a local hospital helped with screening for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol. In addition, CPR instruction, eye examinations, mammography, and chiropractic care were provided. The local credit union was present, a bloodmobile awaited donors, and an insurance representative presented lectures on retirement plans.
A strategy to promote the fair to the community was facilitated by members months in advance as they went door to door to distribute flyers. The combined effort of the Health Ministries Department, led by Dave Walker, and the church members made for a successful event with 95 registered guests.
