Saturday, January 20, 2023 – Job 27, 28

Study questions:
    1. What did Job say he would not do? Job 27:4
    2. Was Job included among the wicked? Job 27:13-23 Reflection
Commentary and reflection:
It is interesting that Job’s argument in this speech is his innocence. He is not willing to accept the accusations of his friends. Note that he subscribes to their premise: the wicked suffer because God punishes them. He does not reach a deeper thought: in a world of sin, we all suffer, because sin is itself a terrible disease that affects us all.

God’s servant says,
“All who in this world render true service to God or man receive a preparatory training in the school of sorrow. The weightier the trust and the higher the service, the closer is the test and the more severe the discipline.” Education 152
Speaking of Jesus himself, she says,
“Christ was treated as we deserve, that we might be treated as He deserves. He was condemned for our sins, in which He had no share, that we might be justified by His righteousness, in which we had no share. He suffered the death which was ours, that we might receive the life which was His. “With His stripes we are healed.”” DOA 14
Job 28 is a beautiful poem inspired by wisdom. Wisdom is more precious than any earthly treasure, be it gold or pearls. Certainly, riches are worthless if there is no life and peace to enjoy them. It is not found on earth. It is not knowledge; it is not obtained in books or universities.
Wisdom is the science of living and is found in the Creator,
25 To establish a weight for the wind,
And apportion the waters by measure.
26 When He made a law for the rain,
And a path for the thunderbolt,
27 Then He saw [h]wisdom and declared it;
He prepared it, indeed, He searched it out. Job 28:25-27
Humans learn this science by turning to the Creator.
28 And to man He said,
‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
And to depart from evil is understanding.’ ” Job 28:28
Let’s make ours this promise,
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:5,6
May this be a blessed day for you and your loved ones.

Pastor Abel Paulin
