Commentary and Reflection:
Job’s words, at first glance, may seem reckless to us. We will never understand them until we put ourselves in his shoes and experience firsthand the tremendous pain he was going through. Perhaps, from our side of history, we may even dare to criticize him for his words full of pessimism; we may never understand him. The great news is that God did understand him because He loved him.

God had declared Job upright (ch. 1:8). Bildad exhibited the fallibility of human judgment when he declared Job to be otherwise. The cold and unfeeling insinuations of this critic must have tried Job’s patience severely.” SDABC, Job 8:6

The God of heaven well knew the reason for such a terrible trial; He knew that millions, through centuries, would be reached by a suffering man who was chosen to serve as a model of humility and submission. Of this man, James wrote, “Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.” James 5:11

God has a purpose for each of his children. Let us pray this purpose is fulfilled in us.
