January 11

January 11, 2024 , 8:00 am - 4:35 pm

Spanish
Thursday, January 11 – Job 9, 10

Study questions:
    1. What important question did Job ask which is the basis of righteousness by faith? Job 9:2.
    2. How did Job show knowledge that the science of his day did not yet know? Job 9:7-9
    3. How does Job identify himself with Adam in his creation and the fragility of his existence? Job 10:9-11

Commentary and reflection:
In his deep pain and despair, Job expresses his thoughts and emotions with strong words. He recognizes the greatness of God but dares to question whether God is just in allowing all these things to happen to him.

It is human to complain about suffering when our faith is shaken. We find David often in his psalms venting his pain and complaining about the injustices of life. The good thing is that The Lordh understands our frailty, and in his love, he forgives when we err in our feelings and words.
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:15,16
Venting helps alleviate emotional pain. We can write on a diary, or we can talk to a friend, or to a therapist. Although he was praying and exercising his faith in the Father, at Gethsemane Jesus longed for the company and understanding of his friends.
“But now He desired them to spend the night with Him in prayer.” DOA 588
It would have helped Job to talk to his friends. It would have helped him tremendously if they had listened without judging him.
When channel our pain in a healthy way a negative can turn into a positive. The classic hymn “It Is Well with My Soul” was written by Horatio Spafford in 1873 after losing his daughters in a tragic accident at sea. Instead of focusing solely on his loss, Spafford channeled his agony into a beautiful melody that has blessed millions. When her daughter, Cari, was killed by a drunk driver in 1980, Candace Lightner channeled her grief into action by founding the national organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
Sister White says about Jesus,
“With a song, Jesus in His earthly life met temptation. Often when sharp, stinging words were spoken, often when the atmosphere about Him was heavy with gloom, with dissatisfaction, distrust, or oppressive fear, was heard His song of faith and holy cheer.” ED 166
It is my prayer that you may receive many blessings today.

Pastor Abel Paulin
