HOMOSASSA CHURCH PANTRY PROVIDES TONS OF FOOD TO COMMUNITY

by Bob Halstead
Each month, the Homosassa Church provides an average of two tons of food to friends and neighbors in their local community. During this past year alone, approximately 3,500 members of local families were assisted.
Five years ago, the men’s group started the food pantry as a community outreach. Supported by church members who serve as volunteers, the pantry has grown to be one of the largest in Citrus County. Pantry doors are opened twice a month and staffed by members and friends of the church. This effort has truly touched the hearts of the local community.
In addition to the food provided, the Church has taken this opportunity to bring Christ to the community. Two clients were baptized, and every time the pantry is open, there are Bible studies in progress. The Church has given out a variety of publications to each family including large print editions of the Bible and various DVDs and CD’s.
After five years of operation, this effort is truly a blessing to the community as well as to the church members.
