LAUDERHILL ADVENTURERS WALK FOR DOWN SYNDROME

by Dave Adden
The Lauderhill, Fla., Church Pioneer Adventurer Club, led by Director Jacqueline Richards, participated for the second consecutive year in the Buddy Walk and 5K Run. The event, held October 19, 2014, supports those born with Down syndrome.
Two Adventurers, Timothy Richards and Kyle Wilson, reached the finish line. Event leaders acknowledged them during the awards ceremony held at Broward County’s Markham Park. Lauderhill Pathfinder Club members cheered on the 10 Adventurers who participated in the cause.
The Buddy Walk, established by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995, takes place every October. According to this organization, “Down syndrome is the most commonly occurring chromosomal condition. One in every 691 babies in the United States is born with Down syndrome. There are more than 400,000 people living with Down syndrome in the United States.”
